Hannah Gooding is only 8 years old, and she is already raising money for AEDs. Hannah loves painting as well as making friendship bracelets, and she sells her creations to benefit the Wes Leonard Heart Team. The Heart Team was created in honor of Michigan high school athlete Wes Leonard who passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of only 16. It lobbies for and provides funds for AED placement in all schools.

Wisconsin Man Saved By a Local Deputy and His AED

This past Saturday, Roger Dahl was attending the Larryfest bluegrass music festival in rural Wisconsin when he suffered sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately, a bystander immediately began performing CPR. Even better, Deputy Larry Howell quickly arrived on the scene with an AED. Dahl was revived following two shocks from the defibrillator.  Continue reading

Two High School Boys Have Already Died This Year During Football Practice

It happens almost every August without fail. One or more young men fall prey to cardiac arrest during the first weeks of football practice. The August heat plus football pads combined with a preexisting heart condition are a deadly combination. This month, there have already been two deaths on the field. One incident occurred in North Carolina while the other took place in California. An AED was not used prior to EMS arrival in either case.
